A live sky you can identify tonight

Star map · astronomy

The first screen is the sky itself. Instruments sit on the map — Tonight, Eclipse, Learn, and Settings — not a tab bar of destinations. Search finds objects. Hold-up is compass and gyroscope on the drawn map.

Sky map and instruments

  • Sky map Live stereographic sky for your location, or a manual latitude and longitude. Naked-eye catalog (magnitude 5) with all 88 IAU constellation names. Pan, pinch, scrub time. Visible clips at the horizon; Browse dims objects below it.
  • Tonight Meteor-shower peaks and bright conjunctions as factual event cards. Observation planning for your horizon: twilight bands, ranked targets, best-now, and Moon-wash — what the Moon will drown tonight.
  • Eclipse Next solar and lunar geocentric candidates, countdown, diagrams, show on map. Local circumstance when you subscribe: visible here, magnitude, path-vs-you, and a NASA GSFC / Espenak Earth path ribbon. A miss is not upgraded into a backyard forecast.
  • Learn Graphics-first topics from the live sky — diagrams and short Help popups, not encyclopedia essays. Positions use VSOP87 (Sun and planets) and Meeus (Moon). ISS uses SGP4 from a TLE; age is shown.

Identify what you see

Hold-up turns the drawn map with compass heading and motion pitch. Night-vision red mode spares dark adaptation. There is no camera viewfinder and no AR overlay in this version.

Hold-up Search Night vision Pin

Tap to select; long-press opens Object detail. Pin targets for tonight. Sky math stays on your iPhone.
